"Do not fear your enemies. The worst they can do is kill you. Do not fear friends. At worst, they may betray you. Fear those who do not care; they neither kill nor betray, but betrayal and murder exists because of their silent consent." ~Bruno Jasienski
Last night I saw this picture on someone's profile, and the guy had this bright red fan covering half his face. Wouldn't strike most people as all that noteable. I mean, sure, guy with weird crazy goth make-up and some red fan... nothing much, right? Except...
It made me miss my bamboo fighting fan
shiseiji gave me. And that set off this 'I miss everything I left behind' mood, most of everything which I hold dear being my friends and family still there. *hugs* Miss you all... :(
I've noticed this kind of strange thing lately. It doesn't matter if I got to bed at 11 pm or 2 am, I only seem to need about seven hours of sleep. With mornings like this, when I can sleep in, I will find that I'll be wide awake for at least half an hour after getting that seven hours of sleep. It's after I fall back asleep that that I have a hard time getting myself out of bed before noon. Although, I did manage that today.
I know it's because on most weeknights I fall asleep around midnight, and usually get up at about seven, but it's strange that the habit of waking myself up extends to weekends and Tuesday mornings (I have no classes until 1 those days). I'd think my body would jump at the chance for extra sleep, but it doesn't. Only seems to want those seven hours. Why seven and not the full eight, I don't know.
Added to that, going to bed before 10:30 is useless, because I'm always awake for an hour or two just thinking about things. I'm usually not asleep until around midnight, unless I've been keeping myself up hanging out with Shan or on the computers...
The last few days I've been reading a collection of short stories inolving dragons in one form or another. Two or three really tickled my fancy, and the one by Ursula K. LeGuin gave me quite the insight into Earthsea (I still haven't finished a Wizard of Earthsea). One of the stories was by Joanne Bertin, who wrote The Last Dragonlord and Dragon and Pheonix. (I'm still waiting of the third book, Bard's Oath, to come out.) Anyway, names were just a little different, but essentially this short story was about Linden Rathan. More specifically, it was about the meeting between Linden and Otter and what transpired afterwards. It was kind of weird, because obviously it was written before the Dragonlord books were released, but just as obviously is the missing story Otter and Linden often joke about in the books.
Rodolpho sitting next to me is playing Risk online. Weird, but cool. His name is also quite weird, but he's from Brazil... he's one of Shan's friends, and another vet student I think. I see him around a lot, though. We usually say hi if we see each other in the computer lab.
