xans: All I want is a warm bed, a kind word, and unlimited power (Power)
I got a comment on a fic published on Ao3 in 2013 that I originally wrote and posted on lj and cross-posted to ff.net back in 2007. Someone not only remembered reading my fic years ago, they were delighted to find it again.

That has made my day and is reminder to me that I should try to comment on fics when I read them. I've been hit or miss about that. Probably a weird brain thing, but I often find the less comments and kudos a fic has, the more inclined I am to give it some love. Same with older fics.

Anyway, I've not written anything in years, but it pleases me that something I wrote entertains people still.
xans: Subtext? Text. (Susan-Talia)
So I put in my prompts for this year's Porn Battle. (http://oxoniensis.livejournal.com/538500.html) I'm also hoping to try and write for more than one prompt.

I feel bad I haven't got around to finishing my Sam/Baal Las Vegas piece, but I'll get there eventually. Because I do want to see it written at some point. Sort of like I might try to get to my other bunnies lying around...

-Sam/Baal, on his spaceship set sometime during the 5th season
-exploring the possibility of Lantash jumping into Sam in The Summit/Last Stand (and living)
-Sam/Baal/Vala, because, um, they're pretty
-Sam/Baal, AU of The Road Not Taken where she needs his help to get back to her universe

I just need to work on actually writing down the words instead of sitting there with the pen & paper or at the computer desk and staring into space thinking up scenarios.

We had a big earthquake a couple days ago, a 6.2 out of Eketahuna. It was a bit scary, I think because small quakes are short and this shaking was going on for several seconds. I crouched down next to my desk just as the worst part hit, things fell of shelves and there was an almighty SMASH from the kitchen. We lost one beer glass and an ornament of Alan's got broken but it can be fixed. Everything else just needed to be set back in place. (And the adrenaline meant if I hadn't felt baby before, I definitely felt it after, haha.) Life goes on.
xans: All I want is a warm bed, a kind word, and unlimited power (Power)
So, I finally got around to setting up an account on AO3. Several reasons for doing this, including cross-posting fanfic that had originally been posted on lj or my ff.net account (hey, once upon a time ff.net was the best multi-fandom archive available). Another reason is that I'm sort of hoping that having an account will inspire me to actually get back into writing fanfic. I never really wrote long pieces or anything, but I've lost track of a lot of the fandom circles... I'm not on tumblr and lj is becoming a dried out husk, and although I have a dreamwidth, it seems, idk, like I have an audience of none. So, if I want people to actually read my stuff, I need to step out of my little shadowed corner.

Anyway.

The idea is to get back into writing instead of just living in my head and daydreaming the hell out of things. Not a NY resolution by any means, just, something I'd like to do.

Um, I don't know if I want to put up a tree this year. Alan and I have no plans to have family over or anything, so why do it? But it's Christmas and we have a black tree and stuff. Well I can figure it out soon enough I guess.

And then, [livejournal.com profile] diea made an fb status update about eggnog. Well, of course she did. Christmas is coming and all that. But it, of course, reminded me of a quote, "Eggnog, then. Noggy eggs. Eggs that are somewhat nogged." -Sirius Black, [livejournal.com profile] shoebox_project Aaaaaand I thought, my god, I haven't checked Shoebox in years... how is my beloved unfinished fanfic, one of the very first pieces I ever read? How is it doing these days?

Well, OMG! Some ruddy bastard hacked it and deleted the whole damn thing! A very important lesson to us all to be very careful about what email addresses we have linked to our accounts and to make sure to keep those email address valid, or get rid of them entirely. But still, all is not lost. Shoebox is preserved in .pdf format and I found the links and all that, but I also wandered over to [livejournal.com profile] cult_sbp (where we can talk about how Shoebox has affected our lives, and affects it still) and I discovered some lovely person was putting together an .epub and .mobi format for those of us with e-readers. How awesome is that? So awesome.

So at Thanksgiving my mum had my step-dad over... I know they're not married anymore but that's the easiest way to describe my relationship to him. He's still my step-dad even if not legally so. Anyway, he's incredibly anti-technology, so he and I haven't kept very close contact since I moved back to New Zealand. But mum had the wonderful idea to get him to sit down and talk with me on Skype at Thanksgiving, so I could ask him myself if he would come to my wedding. It took him a few minutes but he really warmed up to being able to have a face-to-face conversation over the computer. Apparently the request is in that mum show him how to set it up on his computer now lmao.

Also have come up with colours for wedding, would like royal blue, light blue and silver. Along with the medieval/fantasy theme. Rudimentary guest list, now I just need to figure out a venue and also look at possible group rates for accommodation (as big as our house is, we can't house everyone). Also figured instead of a traditional tier cake to go for a flat one with fancy artwork on the icing. There were jokes about using my king and queen lego figurines as the bride and groom to pay homage to my lego obsession...

Alan and I finally got to try out our newly revamped cinemas the other night, to see Immortals 3D. First time I've gone to a 3D movie. Apart from omg the price, altogether was rather cool. We were also going to have dinner at the Wendy's that has just opened up. I don't really remember the menu that well from my time living in the States but another fast food chain for variety, we had hoped to check it out. Of course, everyone else had the same idea and it was crowded and so we got dinner elsewhere and we shall try it out sometime when the novelty has worn off a bit maybe.

Also, our strawberry plants are doing very well with many berries ripening as I type... in fact I had best go water them before I forget.

We bought a new tv just after Christmas, a Boxing Day Sale. The tv stand we have is quite old, and ratty, and doesn't fit the tv properly. So today we bought a new one, it will arrive in 3-5 weeks. And we decided to peek at dining suites. Aaaaand they offered us a deal. So, we've got a new dining suite coming as well. Hell, we've been meaning to upgrade it at some point. Now's as good a time as any. Next bit of furniture is a new mattress. Looking at maybe putting the electric blanket back on the bed soon.

Gratch hates the change in the weather, it was raining last night so she came into the bedroom at 3 a.m. to complain. At the top of her lungs. Noisy little tart. She's going to have to get over it though.

I also spoiled my darling a bit today, and bought him a pair of hush puppies for work. The floor at Mega is hard concrete and his shoes just haven't been doing the trick. He spent some of his pay buying some new black trousers but was going to have to wait until after the rent pay before buying new shoes. I can't stand the thought of him being uncomfortable for that long though and offered to buy a pair for him.

I set up an OpenID over at dreamwidth. I've been looking for new fanfic lately and a lot of stuff I find on lj is several years old. Have a sneaking suspicion I haven't kept up with fandom and they've all snuck off without me. Going to try to get reacquainted with it all and also leave comments and stuff.

Confession... I have not watched the HP movies past Goblet of Fire. I also have not read Deathly Hallows.

Why? Tbh, I think I Od'd on HP fic. I got so caught up in fanon and the "better" ideas out there that I lost hold with canon. Also I really hated how whiny Harry got.

So, what am I doing? I'm taking a huge break from HP. Once all the movies are out, I will probably acquire the books (I only have 1, 2, and 4 I think) and reread each one, one after the other. At the end of each, watch the movie. In that way, immerse myself in HP again, and try and enjoy it without my preconceptions and ideas of how it "ought" to be.

Maybe then I can fall in love with it again.

Yeah, went and uploaded some new icons. Needed the revamp. Have decided I really do rather adore my layout and colour scheme, have done so for over three years now, I believe.

It is a likely possibility I will be in Vancouver, BC in July next year. And that means a trip down to WA to see mum and Gary and show off Seattle to Alan.

This means I really, really need job to save up dosh and everything. And this is also remembering I still want a sea kayak by this summer. Because, yeah, I live by the beach!

Um, if you're curious, go have a look at the [livejournal.com profile] sg1_five_things latests posts after they're unscreened on September 14. I decided to write for a couple.

Banana choc chip muffins and Banana Cake are still made of win.

Joe and Heaven being back is made of fail.

Alan wants the computer, so I better stop all this now. I'll be happy when he gets his own box again.

Yo. Been working. Moving soon, to a nice little place that I'll share with two guys. I'm not gonna be the woman of the household, though, uh-uh.

[livejournal.com profile] ashinae and [livejournal.com profile] linden_jay keep feeding me their crossover fic as my new crack. I sorta can't wait for it to pass the rest of the beta process-stuff, and all that, to be shared with greater fandom, and see the awesomeness spread.

Doing my best to fight off a cold. I so don't need to get sick right now. Or ever, really.

I know, I know. A month ago I was so-not-excited about my birthday. But that quickly changed.

Partially, I was all hyper and happy because I just landed two part-time jobs within two weeks of each other. And that is yay! I'm taking time off school and just working for now, 'cause I need the money and the exp and a better looking CV. And, jobs, yay, I like them.

So, yeah, despite my body doing strange and mean things and making me worry, things were on the up. And, hello, birthday, that's a thing to CELEBRATE!

And I have. Started with a parcel arriving from Mum on Friday with all sorts of lovely little goodies like stripey socks, lacy undies, and Amy Brown art, and little knick knacks. Carried on to Saturday, with lunch at the cafe at work with Dad and Suzy (I got to see Buddy and Truffles, the cute little things) and warning them of the pregnancy possibility...

Then, 8 pm, Blades of Glory. *dies* [livejournal.com profile] abrandnewboom? Everything you said. :D I loved it. Jon Heder was so pretty. Although he had only a short spot, I adore William Fichtner. And, and... yeah. I liked it a lot. I'm soooo tempted to go see it a second time. But I also kinda want to see Transformers, and maybe OotP. We'll see. I actually dreamed went and saw Transformers, and man did that fuck with my mind.

Um, oh, yeah. Sunday, my birthday. I worked. BUT THIS WAS OKAY. For one thing, I kept telling everyone and they said happy birthday all the time. Then there was the sausage sizzle guys, who remembered me telling them last weekend that Sunday was my birthday, and they put a candle in my sausage! *giggles* It melted a little.

A random customer, upon hearing it was my birthday, bought me a card and wrote inside, "To a very special young lady, Happy Birthday. Have a coffee on me." And gave my $5. How fucking sweet is that?!

Iain, Dad, and Suzy showed up late afternoon... Iain's leaving for Japan soon to teach English for a year, hence why Dad and Suzy came down. And they left some stuff of mine and Iain's at my place, but came to see me and give me more presents and cake.

CAKE. I haven't had a birthday cake in years. It's delicious, and all sorts of pretty with scrolly chocolate mousse and little candy roses. Black forest cake. MMM.

Presents... $50 Whitcoulls voucher (I bought the Long Way Round Special Edition set with it) from Dad and Suzy (also my bike earlier this year, it's my big present for like... the next few big celebrations), The Alchemist from Iain, which I've yet to start reading... and a fold-out mirror from a family friend, Catherine.

My parcel from Andrea arrived sometime over the weekend and I got it yesterday. Yay! Black moleskin pants, "Bitch Pills" and other cute knick knacks.

Mum called me last night, and we chatted. OH! I told her about the pregnancy scare, but I'm not pregnant, because, well, my body's birthday gift to me was the absolute knowledge in the form of, well, y'know. *looks down* Told Dad and Suzy when they stopped by on my birthday as well. Everyone's happy. It's all good.

It's been a very sweet, very awesome birthday.

Now, I'm going to see what the f-list has been up to. And read more fic by [livejournal.com profile] ashinae and [livejournal.com profile] linden_jay in my position as "pre-beta beta" *grins*

Chatting on MSN to my 11/12 year old step-niece, and feeling slightly guilty that my current display picture is this icon... and also cringing at every spelling mistake she makes (macking for making, ake for ache, that sort of thing) even as I'm able to understand what she 'ment' to say.

I love receiving compliments for my cooking. Particularly when it's something I've not tried before, or that secretly I think isn't as good as I'd hoped. I try not to say when I'm not best pleased with my cooking, kind of the same as when I write fic, so that, y'know, no one feels the need to compliment me so I'll feel better about myself. Hide my insecurities and then it's even more surprising and gratifying to get told I've done well. :)

Speaking of fic, [livejournal.com profile] sophie_448 came up with a new word to describe the reaction a fic can give: *squibble* which is, essentially, squee+wibble. I like it.

Greg Sanders: You know, I kind of feel bad for these girls.
Hodges: Don't feel too bad. They have health benefits, good pay. The women get regular check-ups. The industry is well-regulated. As opposed to picking a hooker up off the street. Does she have a disease? Multiple diseases? Is she crazy? Is she gonna roll you? Where do you go? Do you do it in your car, behind a building, down a dark alley? So you drive around, scared out of your mind, finally get the nerve up, pick one you like, call her over, she gets in. Next thing you know, you're down on the pavement, cuffed, because she's an undercover cop, but luckily you were three months shy of your eighteenth birthday so when you call your mom to come get you, it doesn't go on my permanent record.
Greg: [momentarily speechless] ... Okay.

CSI, "Ending Happy" --Perhaps one of the best cases I've ever seen on the show. Just all sorts of crazy. And funny. Guy was hit over the head, shot through the neck by a crossbow, having an allergic reaction to shellfish, and poisoned by snake venom. Some people really wanted Happy dead, poor man.

In this meme, you do the work...

Comment to this post with an offer to write in any fandom that you and I have in common. I will answer with a prompt. Then, you will write me comment-fic, snippets, or whatever comes to mind. Now go post this in your own journal and demand fic of your very own! Make your flistwork! You had a long week and you DESERVE it, dammit!

So, my fandoms are on my infopage if you forget those which we have in common. Go pick one so I can prompt you, and I'll return the favor to anyone who reposts this (but only if you try your hand at writing something for me, too).

So apparently I didn't manage to make a post about the Z thing, y'know? Eh, well... it was kinda hectic, what with trying not to join the legions of the undead or anything. Fortunately, a delivery of foodstuffs from a nearby bakery means we are well stocked for, well... the next week or so at the very least. Gotta love all these meat pies and cream buns to build up body mass... I'm a little too skinny for my liking at the moment. :(

In other news, [livejournal.com profile] setissma wrote two Bones!fics & one Supernatural!fic as part of a First Kiss meme. Tres adorable! I'd try this meme myself, but I'm still kinda sorta working on an as yet untitled Lorne/Beckett fic that's being fussy about getting written. The words just don't wanna play nice. Ah, well.

Now, there are some pretty damn funny macros out there. But sometimes, a cute picture is a cute picture without adding words.

[livejournal.com profile] pandoras_closet linked to "When March of the Penguins Attacks". There are no words. *watches and cackles*

Last night I could not seem to sleep for more than a couple of hours before waking myself up. I'd be happily in dreamland, or in that state of flowing consciousness where I think I'm still awake until I wake up and lose track of what I was thinking, and then suddenly I'd be wide awake. No bad dreams or loud noises to wake me up. Just... awake. But then I managed to sleep in this morning anyway.

Um, anyway, I was an idiot when I went out, found this awesome page of fanfic recs, and promptly lost it again. In fact, there were two that I haven't the slightest clue where to find them again, and it sucks because there was some shiny links there. Still, I got a few more that I've been meaning to link to...

A Beautiful Lifetime Event -[livejournal.com profile] astolat/shalott
John stared in horror: the thing was growing. Every one of the blobs swelling up, and then slowly and inevitably splitting in two, and then those both started getting bigger -- "Look, isn't there -- can't you turn it off?"

"
Excuse me?" Beckett turned and glared at him.

John glared right back, furious, wanting to
shake Beckett -- "This is an accident with Ancient technology, not a beautiful lifetime event! I want a goddamn morning-after pill!"

John and Rodney accidentally make a baby. No mpreg, thank goodness. I forget where I first found the link to this. And damn was I leery, what with it being a kid!fic and McShep, neither of which I really care for, and yet I find myself drawn in anyway. It's really quite sweet, especially since John and Rodney don't really "get together" until late in the story, when they've already made the kid and all sorts of things have happened.

Life Lessons Learned From Aliens -[livejournal.com profile] eleveninches
When he left by himself a few minutes later, it was in outrage. He'd been hoping for something funny, or at least something he could use against them, but everyone -- literally everyone -- in the control room was in love with the same person: Elizabeth. That was so predictable. Zelenka loved Ronon, Ronon loved pancakes, he loved (supposedly loved) Sheppard, but everyone else had a thing for the boss.

An Ancient device which reveals a person's One True Love. Rodney is sure it's broken. Also, another device is discovered to see what other people see as their One True Love. It's funny, because the boys are in denial, and Ronon's true love is pancakes, and for once it wasn't Sheppard who touched something he shouldn't have.

Missed the Saturday Dance -[livejournal.com profile] zoetrope

This, this is an amazing piece of work. It's an AU, where John Sheppard is a test pilot in WWII and Rodney McKay is a genius engineer of said test planes... and it's a mix of medias. There's two audio clips, a movie trailer, as well as the fic which comes to us as pictures, an exchange of letters as well as scenes from their lives together. Amazing work. Really.

The Numbers -[livejournal.com profile] trinityofone
For a second he's completely convinced that they're writing to apologize. Dear John Sheppard, we have made a grievous mistake. Our doctor was a moron and you are not, in fact, colorblind. We would like to take you on as soon as possible and in fact have several F-16s specially picked out. Would a starting rank of Colonel be agreeable to you? Sincerely, the U.S. Air Force. Then he realizes how ridiculous this is and has to take several deep breaths to keep from being sick.

MENSA 'verse. That is, the 'verse with "Rod" from "McKay and Mrs. Miller" only this is about the John Sheppard there, and his part in Atlantis without being in the Air Force.

The Roads Never Lead Where They're Supposed to Go -[livejournal.com profile] eleveninches
"Zelenka," Rodney demanded, "why are there botanists in my lab?"

"Dr Sheppard was the one to discover the transporters, completely by accident," Zelenka said, like that was supposed to mean something. He clasped Sheppard's shoulder, and Sheppard smirked at Rodney again.

Rodney waited for more of an explanation. When it didn't come, he asked, "So? Is that supposed to impress me? What the hell are transporters?" Both Zelenka and Sheppard looked at him in surprise. "What? I'm not allowed to leave this floor, except to eat and occasionally sleep. Personally, I think Sumner feels threatened by me. You blow up one star, and suddenly everyone thinks you're a loose cannon."

-Another AU where Shappard is a civillian, and a botanist at that, and McKay isn't in charge... and a retake on a B-Grade sci-fi with much amusement for all.

Okay, so I'll admit the pairing of Beckett/Lorne hadn't really crossed my mind, until certain recent developments thanks to [livejournal.com profile] ashinae. Unfortunately, I cannot seem to find much fic involving this pairing. In fact, a couple hits over at Wraithbait (nothing special about them), and three fics by [livejournal.com profile] inkscribe, The Thing About Sunday (A Sunday fix), and it's sorta sequel Pict Nae Scot which truly delves into the Beckett/Lorne mentioned in the first fic. And then there's Word Gets Around which is all sorts of eerie darkfic inpsired by several other rather amazing fics (although I can't quite bring myself to read the Human Condition ones, because Carson/Michael scares me). Anyway, I just... can we get some more Beckett/Lorne fic out there, mmm?

What should you do if you man walks out?
Shut the door behind him.

What should you do if you see your ex rolling around in pain on the ground?
Shoot him again.

What have you got if you have 100 men buried up to their necks in sand?
Not enough sand.

How many men does it take to tile a bathroom?
One, if you slice him thinly enough.

How do you stop a man from drowning?
Take your foot off his head.

How do you stop a man from spitting?
Turn down the grill.

How can you tell a guy's well-hung?
You can't get a finger between the rope and his neck.

What's the fastest way to a man's heart?
Through his chest with a sharp instrument.

What does it mean when the man in your bed is gasping for breath and calling your name?
You didn't hold the pillow down long enough.

Recently I paid a visit to Urban Dictionary because I was confused as to what "YMMV" meant. And then I threw in a couple other words just to see what the defintion was, if there was one. One of them was "Metallicar" which is the fan-assigned name of the oh-so-lovely car Sam and Dean have in Supernatural. I was amused about part of the definition, concerning real fangirls and the episode "Devil's Trap" (that I haven't seen, but I know about), what was this:

*After the ending of Devil's Trap*

FakeDitzyFangirl 1: Ahhhh! Sam!
FakeDitzyFangirl 2: Ahhhh! Dean!
RealFangirl 3: Noooooooo! The Metallicar

I suspect I belong to category 3, because we all know what is important and irreplaceable. *nods*

...Dude, I think a rat is setting up shop in my flatmate's closet. I heard scratching and I'm sure it was the pitter patter of not so small claws of a rat, as opposed to a wee mousie. But I didn't see anything, so I can't be sure.

And yet more links:
Truth Surprises -Actually, the thud was kinda fun, as long as the impact left you conscious. Sheppard/Beckett porn.

Not Going Anywhere -John wakes up, and he can't see, or hear. He tries not to panic, and there are those there to help him.

Running on Empty -John and Rodney are implanted with Wraith trackers and placed separately on an alien world to act as runners for the Wraith's amusement. As the story switches between John and Rodney we see a John who doesn't remember anything about who he is but still deals with his problems in a very John way and a panicked Rodney who is all too aware of his own abilities and lack thereof.

Long Road Home -"Great, now I'm on a first-name basis with illegal aliens," McKay groaned. "I am officially the worst border agent ever." An illegal immigrant, an emotionally and physically damaged veteran, and a border patrol agent who hates his job... maybe they were destined to be friends in any universe.

Last night I had the most wonderful idea when I decided to make a curry and then mix it with spaghetti noodles. Noodle curry is delicious! Also, the house still smells of my cooking even a day later. Maybe if I did the dishes this would not be so. I'm sort of resistant to doing the dishes, however, because while there is a small pile growing, it's kind of fun to let it get big, do it, and guilt my flatmate into doing the next couple of lots. He always thanks me when I do the whole lot when I don't have to. I do them partially because, hey, need clean dishes thanks (just rinsing and reusing is a bad habit of mine) and also I've been relegated to dishwashing (or un/loading the dishwasher) as one of my chores for, like, a decade. It's kinda in me to do dishes when they gotta be done.

Friend of mine posted a link to this gender guesser that analyzes a sample of writing and guesses the gender of the author. I don't think it's very accurate. Or, apparently, writing like a female is something to be ashamed of, or something. I don't know. Of the many various samplings of my writing (essay, original fic, fanfic, and random journal entries--not memes), the guesser had most my writing as predominantly male. I find this amusing more than anything, but I also am completely confused as to the method to derive the potential gender of the writer. I wouldn't be surprised if it's constantly mistaken.

After the links I posted before, I've gone and found more fic, because I am a total nerd. :D Also, reading an Atlantis version of Beauty and the Beast reminded me of a Harry Potter one I read, many years ago. Naturally, I could not rest until I found it again, and thankfully a search in [livejournal.com profile] remusxsirius (oh, how long it's been since I was a member there) lead to some linkage and a title. It's Once in Eternal Springtime Part 1, Part 2, Part 3, & Part 4.

The Road to Nevada -Me and my John/Rodney AUs. John was a fighter pilot in WWI, and now it's heading into WWII, when he goes to work for Rodney McKay, and they end up on the run from Nazis and space vampires and G-men... Really quite good, and the bit parts of other characters are very well done.

The Amazing Quest of John Sheppard -A very rich John Sheppard suffers great boredom, until he makes a bet with a doctor that he can't go a year living and working like a normal person, not touching his inheritance for personal use. In the process he meets (and helps) many people, and falls in love with one Rodney McKay, which may be a problem when it comes time for the year to end...

Bluffing -John/Rodney. Of course.
Dent sang, "McKay and Sheppard, sitting in a tree. Hey, would you have to change your names to McShep?" He laughed.

"I am not a value meal," John said, grousing as he switched out one card for Jackson.

"Oh, no. You are premium cut." Ford grinned.

"That's right. And none of you boys will ever get a taste of me."

Safety Dance -Summary: Carson joins the team in an off-world mission to find out why the people of Terro live such long, healthy lives. While there, he gives medical attention to a pregnant woman whose husband is suspicious of his alien motives. John has to intervene by pretending Carson belongs to him.

Mmm, yesterday, after my insomnia got me up at four-something in the morning, well, I decided that just after seven would be a grand time to talk that walk listening to happy upbeat music. So, into the CD player went Eve 6, and off I went in time to miss Calum and Michaela getting up (how/why those children never sleep in is beyond my ken). I decided to alter my route a wee bit as well, for variety's sake. This is an idea that could have gone really bad really fast...

I'm walking down a street when out of the corner of my eye I see two rottweiler's trotting up to say hello. Now, I'm not the slightest bit afraid of dogs, and even though I hadn't even seen them 'til they were nearly on me, I didn't freak. It was just the way they approached me was that of excitement, like, "OOH! Someone to play with us!" rather than bounding at me barking furiously and deciding they wanted to try human. Still, two puppy-like rotties each weighing probably half as much as I do or more, who never learned not to jump on people?

They were also completely oblivious to my commands to go home, and wouldn't leave me be. They either walked deliberately in my path to slow me down to jump at me, and were under the impression I had treats in my pockets along with my cold hands. So, darlings that they were, I didn't really want them following me my entire walk, and I couldn't just leave two rotties wandering around, y'know?

So I walked towards the houses in the direction they'd come from, hoping at least one of the neighbors would know who the dogs belong to. Fortunately, I picked a house where the young couple and their kids were already awake and up, so I didn't disturb them on that count. I still apologised as I asked if they knew who might own them, and also, if they didn't, call someone to pick the dogs up. The guy stayed outside with me and the dogs to keep them wandering far or scaring his kids while his wife called the pound--but seven something on a Sunday morning? Pound was closed. So a few more calls later, and eventually the dogs were picked up by the MPs (military police. Oh the joys of living in a military camp. It's not that bad at all, actually...). I hope they found the owners and stuff, 'cause the dogs were nice, if, y'know, playful and adoring.

A few links, thanks to my f-list and my explorations:

YouTube video: Duckling feeding Koi

Not Fanfic: A Tale of Two Hearts -A sequel, of sorts, by Peter S. Beagle, of The Last Unicorn. Does anyone but me remember the movie? Read the book?

It's possible I got a wee bit carried away, and it's Atlantis-centric fic, although, yes, some from other fandoms. And crossovers. And AUs. All sorts. It's also very random, as I followed my thoughts and memories rather than any sort of order. Err... yeah. So.

Spare you these fanfic links (SG-1, SGA, SPN, some more acronyms and some crossovers) )

A few things, in no particular order:

1.) The menstrual cycle is a curse: you curse it if it comes, and your curse it if it doesn't. Currently cursing it for coming, although I'm also grateful that everything is in working order, and I haven't gone and got myself knocked up. That would lead to all sorts of unpleasant business we don't need.

2.) He says I have a sexy tummy. It makes me laugh. But then I love it when he runs his hands across my belly and along my lower back. Tickling--or trying to--is so not on, however.

3.) I possibly drink too much coffee.

4.) I ate a tuna sandwich yesterday, and it didn't kill me. I still don't really like tuna, though. I'd say it's on the same level of distaste as mushrooms, but not as much as beetroot or eggplant/aubergine. Or absolute loathing like for sheep's kindeys.

5.) Danny Messer/Carmine Giovinazzo is all sorts of pretty:
See what I mean? )

6.) I have a mini moro bar sitting next to me, and I am too full to eat it. Le shock, horror!

7.) I've been really comment happy lately, having something to say, or sometimes not having something to say, but commenting anyway, particularly because of...

8.) [livejournal.com profile] nest_of_spiders, a new comm pimped to me by [livejournal.com profile] such_heights. They post prompts daily for the month of April. "The community is open to all characters and pairings (slash, het, gen) from the First War/Marauders' Era of Harry Potter (approximately 1970-1981)." The reponse to prompts has been simply amazing, and I've felt inclined to leave comments as I've yet to be inspired to write fic myself.

9.) I'm much too prideful for the teensy little bit of help I gave [livejournal.com profile] ashinae on her Nathan/Peter fic, Nothing So Complicated. It's all sorts of wrongness, but I still love it. Hee.

10.) Have a Happy Easter everyone! (Whether you celebrate it or not. Hope your weekend is grand, anyhow.)

Go look at my userpics. Ask me anything about any one of them--why I chose it, why that fandom, where the hell did I find it--anything at all.

An even bigger challenge: go look at said userpics, pick one, and write a drabble-length piece about it in the comments. It needn't be exactly 100 words. Could be more, could be less, but more than a sentence or two, if you please. If you do this, I will go look at your userpics, and return the favour.

Most of these types of nerds are considered dirty who lack hygeine, of course they always end up being the ones who make a crapload of money. And don't worry, that's just a stereotype; I'm not calling you dirty. ^_~

Seriously, is there something about Easter and Jesus' Undead Shindig, or what, that brings out End-of-the-World vibes? I mean, firstly, there's Black Sheep coming out, uhh, tomorrow, and don't make me repeat the Multi-Fandom challenge I mentioned in my last post, and, oh, someone on my f-list chose to point out World War Z right about now... And also, May bring us 28 Weeks Later 'cause Lord knows that movie needs a sequel with, like, none of the original characters... Yeah.

Completely unrelated, although the Red Eyes might deceive you, [livejournal.com profile] pandoras_evil_t posted a handful of pictures from her 21st, including a couple of me (and thus, the only important ones :P) so I figured I'd share. Hopefully she'll get a hold of more and we can sit back and admire them, too. We don't actually have any pictures of being out on the town, just ones from dinner... but hey. It was a grand time. *snerk* Photographic evidence of selling my panties would have been hilarious, now that I think about it.

Lookit! All prettified )

...Andrea makes me look tanned. *laughs*

In a bid for more linkage... I decided to go looking for CSI: NY fanfic that was Danny-centric, but non-shippy. I found a few, before I got overwhelmed and beat a hasty retreat. But there's one I read, about Danny and Flack set between Seasons 2 & 3, called Brothers and Sisters (Everything I Can't Remember). There's a second, third, & fourth part, as well. And man... I try not to cry over fics. Sometimes I can't stop tears welling up and letting one or two loose. *shakes head* This fic had me damn near bawling by the end. I liked it a lot, though.

...and now I'll get back to betaing a fic for [livejournal.com profile] ashinae.
