Well, my love and I bought the first season of Game of Thrones a week ago or so, and promptly fell in love with it. I'm digging Arya, Jon Snow, and The Imp the most. Second season is only screening on SOHO here so will have to wait until it is out on DVD, and avoid spoilers if I can.

Um, so was reading a few gen Avengers fanfic and stumbled on the crack!pairing that is Darcy Lewis/Bruce Banner (or Darcy/Hulk) and rather loving it.

Amanda Palmer retweeted something I posted about her and earned me a follower haha. I'd say the chick, like me, was drawn to Amanda by her husband Neil Gaiman posting about her and we share that in common at least. I'm also really digging the single "Do it with a rock star" that she released to backers, although Alan wasn't over struck on it. Speaking of Neil, amazon.com has the entire Sandman series in a slipcover available for pre-order, for under $200. It is very, very tempting.

I also got around to buying the Lana Del Rey album off iTunes and have those songs in my head all the time now.

I'm also wondering about buying Diablo 3. I didn't pre-order and turns out that was a good thing since blizzard didn't anticipate sales and their servers crashed shortly after the game was released. As far as I'm aware it's sorted now but still a bit unsure as I don't want to be disappointed like I was with Dungeon Siege 3.

I need to put a grocery list together and walk down to meet Alan after work.

Okay, okay, RL post...

Got a temporary job doing stocktake at Alan's store. It's only for a month (two weeks already gone) but hey, it's a bit of extra dosh and quite handy for shelling out on necessities like firewood, and not so necessary, like Amanda Palmer's kickstarter project because it is so utterly cool and exciting how fast she raised money. And she's funny and I love following both her and Neil Gaiman on twitter because they are an adorable couple.

Also on twitter, amusing to follow Zachary Quinto & Simon Pegg and see them getting up to shenanigans in Hooters with Cumberbatch (I don't even watch the new Sherlock)... weirdest thing is reading Leonard Nimoy's posts with his voice in my head.

Anyway, back to the job thing... it means getting up at 5 a.m. two mornings in a row, which is a bitch but survivable. Although, fuck this cold. I know it's heading into winter but fuck the cold. Winter also means July also means my birthday means holy shit I'm almost twenty-fucking-SEVEN ayfkm surely I only turned 17 last year. My brother is going to be 30, which is supposed to be grown-up, right? Except it's impossible to imagine my brother being grown-up. And me being grown-up. I will never give up my legos.

I still need to organise my wedding holy hell I am terrible at this.

Summing up my thoughts in both this post and the comments: How the fuckity fuck can people not realise how awesome Natasha/Black Widow is? IF YOU DISAGREE, WE HAVE VERY DIFFERENT MEMORIES OF BUDAPEST, OKAY? Also, see title of post. I can has icons?

A couple fic recs:
By Arwen Lune -- Rock Happy A Generation Kill/SGA fusion, or; Brad Colbert in Atlantis. "You know what's really weird about the whole thing?" Brad finally said. Nate raised en eyebrow. "Apart from the whole highly classified, inter-branch, civilian and international, can't-tell-you-what-our-program-is-called-without-non-disclosure-paperwork, independent-thinker selecting, amiable Air Force and Corps officer cooperation thing?" Also, Brad Colbert mentioned in Rock Happy that he found a Shit My CO Says list on the Atlantis wiki. Rock Happy is still a WIP but what I've gathered from the notes she is close to wrapping it up, and then intends to write shorter fics featuring the Generation Kill boys in Atlantis. Normally I steer clear of WIPs because I hate the long waits, but she's been fairly regular.

By auburn -- Gypsies, Tramps, and Thieves John Sheppard/Rodney McKay Summary: Vala Mal Doran and her partners, renegades Jehan abd-Ba'al and Meredith McKay, hijack the Tau'ri ship Prometheus and leave the Milky Way behind in search of the Lost City of the Ancients, Atlantis. This is a long read with plenty of action and suspense, that parallels many canon events but also takes some new twists, and also explores some things the show never touched on, like just WHY everyone manages to mostly understand each other, except some languages and the written word. For the most part, I enjoyed it immensely, although I don't know if it's personal preference/head canon, I just felt Carter got a bit of a raw deal, but then the author's main focus was on Vala, Jehan, and Meredith as the core cast of this tale. There's a couple shorter pieces set in the same 'verse that I haven't read yet.

By copperbadge/sam_storyteller -- Avengers: A Partial Dictionary Of The 21st Century Steve/Tony but really a gorgeous exploration of the 21st Century by Steve, with some interesting extrapolations about the other Avengers... It's amazing what you can keep in the refrigerator. By the time the team is living in Stark Mansion, the big industrial fridge in the kitchen is packed. Bruce and Natasha tried to institute the "everyone gets a shelf" rule, but Tony just eats whatever's there and Thor doesn't really understand the concept of personal property very well and Clint positively delights in eating other peoples' food, because he says it tastes better if it's stolen. And, and, there's just this reference to Xavier/Magneto that tugged my heartstrings...

By dduane -- "Mycroft's Delight" okay, it's supposed to be BBC Sherlock but I haven't seen that, so I was picturing Stephen Fry's Mycoft from the movie, bust still. Part of me just loves the fact a published author doesn't hesitate to write fanfic (esp. after that ONTD post about author's opinions on fanfic--mainly, the authors they chose to quote mostly were quite dickish about it), and the story itself is delightful to sink into, and, bonus, she included a recipe at the end.

That's all for now...

Things I bought today:

-a new washing machine (the old one has to be filled with a hose)
-Invasion (it was cheap and I never got to see it all the way through on tv)
-Terry Pratchett's fourth Tiffany Aching novel "I Shall Wear Midnight"

It is my darling's opinion the second two slightly frivolous items were to compensate for spending money on something necessary and pedestrian. My justification was, been meaning to acquire them and we were out doing stuff anyway.

Things I didn't buy today, although sorely tempted:

-clear nail polish (mostly for securing the sparkles on a navel piercing of all things)
-legos (particularly the Millennium Falcon)
-Sanctuary & Farscape (Probably because I couldn't find them)

No podcast suggestions from my f-list :( I don't even know where I should begin looking for interesting ones but okay.

Have I mentioned I don't need an alarm clock? Every day for the past week or so Gratch has taken to sitting on my bedside table, meowing and purring anytime between 6 & 8 a.m. because, in her opinion, it is time I get up. And she'll come back every 10 mins or so like a snooze button, too.

USA, to absolutely no one's surprise, lost to the Wallabies in the rugby. All Blacks quite fortunately kicked French ass last night, which goes a long way towards making up for shock upsets of the French beating New Zealand in the last few world cups.

Alan brought home a crayfish for dinner, normally they cost $100/kg, so ours would have cost around $150... we got ours for $40 worth of beer. And mmmm it was damn tasty.

Gratch appears to have broken a tooth... keeping an eye on her to see if a vet visit is absolutely necessary. Might need to for a round of antibiotics or something. Also need to get her flea and worm treatment, it being springtime and all.

I finally have my engagement ring, of which my facebook friends have seen blurry pics of. Not that I didn't like wearing the ring that had been Alan's mum and grandmother's, although it was a tad small... it's also one the boys may want to use if/when they get engaged. This ring however I got to pick out and is exclusively mine mwahahahaha. I love it though it's a sapphire with two small diamonds on each side and then a bunch of tiny ones along the band of white gold, which is twisty. I will, however, need to get it re-sized as it is a tiny bit too loose. There should be more resistance to slide it over my knuckle.

Currently we are re-watching Firefly (omg so much love), and I'm also rereading Terry Pratchett's Wee Free Men and the next two Tiffany Aching books. Also need to find out if the fourth one is in paperback yet (I prefer paperback to hardcover, don't know why).

Speaking of books, gor anyone who hasn't read it, and loves a good in depth fantasy series, look up Elizabeth Moon's Deed of Paksenarrion novels. There's the original trilogy: Sheepfarmer's Daughter, Divided Allegiance, & Oath of Gold. Two prequels known as the Legacy of Gird: Surrender None & Liar's Oath. Then there's her newest set, Oath of Fealty, Kings of the North, and an as yet unnamed and unwritten third novel.

Also Daylight Savings just kicked in today which came as a great surprise... don't remember seeing a lot of ads leading up to it (saying check your smoke alarms) and if they mentioned on the news, I missed it.

Re-watching Stargate Atlantis from the beginning, had forgotten just how much of a smirky smirker John Sheppard is. Also paying attention to the minor characters more because I've read so much fanfic and want to compare better.

Weather is cooling down, and daylight savings just ended here. Forgot about it and ended up getting up an hour early. Oh well.

Went shopping the other day, invested in some hush puppies for if I get the job, plus some new winter boots... a few CDs, some dvds along with all 5 seasons of Stargate Atlantis. Am geeking out just a little bit since apart from the first season I've missed a lot of the rest of the series. Am horribly spoiled for most events thanks to fanfiction, but still. It's not the same as seeing the episode.

Even though she gets mad at me for laughing at her or telling her no, my cat still has her moments when she must be the centre of my universe and she adores me. Like now... my arms are in the way from letting her curl up on my lap. Before long she will shift just so to push the keyboard tray, although for now she's resorting to headbutting my hand and potentially drooling on the keyboard.

I think I forgot to mention...

Shopping at Pak'n'Save the other night, stocking up on femme supplies, grabbing a six pack of lurvely Schweppes soda with a twist of lime and kiwifruit (they were 98c, I shoulda grabbed two. Heh), and a couple packets of squiggles biscuits... standing in the checkout lane and suddenly realising I must look the walking stereotype of a PMSer, with my pads and chocolate.

I had to giggle.

Season one finale of SPN last night. Just as I predicted, felt more upset about the Metallicar than my boys, although I love my boys and hate to see them hurt. I'm so lying. I kinda liked it when that demon was punching Sammy, and then Dean was a super sexy after he shot it. No idea how long we'll have to wait until we are gifted with the next season. Le sigh.

I can't stand when Sam is jealous of the car. I wish I was joking, but I've read a number of stories (and then hit the back button very quickly) where he said something to the effect of "Maybe if you cared about me as much as your car!" In general I don't like it when the car is spoken badly of in stories, even if Sam doesn't make out with her like Dean does, he still loves her.

And characterizations where Dean is stupid and can't do anything on his own (hi, the boy hunted for four years all by his lonesome and didn't lose any limbs, he knows how to do his job and do it well) and Sam is omgsosmart! Just no. Or wincest where Sam wants flowers and anniversary dinners. Very much no. They're boys first of all, but most of all they're brothers and even more importantly they're Winchester brothers. They don't do heart shaped chocolates and candle-light dinners, they super glue M&M's to tables and fuck against grimy bathroom walls.

Whitticker's Dark Mocha chocolate is so very, very nice... but it is entirely possible to overindulge and spend the rest of the day with a stomachache. *pouts* Not cool.

I totally have idea for at least two SGA fics, if only I could get the right words instead of vague [action/dialogue goes here] type thoughts. I need to sleep first, though, I think.

Was all miserable and overcast this morning, but somewhen in the time I was wandering through town, the clouds burned up and moved on... I only ended up noticing because some random gentleman made a passing comment that it was my smile that sent the clouds away. I laughed, for it was sweet of him to say that it takes a gorgeous girl to make the day brighter, especially when I'm hiding my messy hair under a hat, and my face is still blotchy from the latest outbreak of hormonal zits. Also, it's impossible to tell anything of my womanly figure when I'm in my bulky leather jacket.

It's supposed to be winter here and all that, and yet I wore shorts this weekend for the first time in a long while. I think I was feeling contrary, or maybe I just wanted someone to notice I haven't shaved my legs in about a week. :P It doesn't seem to matter if I wear pants or shorts, or how many pairs of socks... my feet still insist on becoming blocks of ice at the nearest opportunity.

Could not sleep last night, and thus distracted myself watching Black Books, because it's funny. Didn't quite finish the first disc before I got tired enough to try sleep. Have been having dreams of a vivid nature, that promptly become forgotten even as I grasp at the entangled plot lines. Trifle frustrating, but survivable.

Am I invisible because I started hiding, or did I start hiding because I'm already invisible?

When I was little, I used to have a crush on Shredder.

Yeah, him. And it wasn't anything to do with him being a villain or anything--I barely remember what his character was like. It's been years. No, I just remember having this sort of long-time pervy appreciation of his body.

>.<

I know. I'm weird. It's not like he's the only crush I've had on an animated character, either. There are others, like Poison Ivy or Fox (Hey. Redheads.) when I normally couldn't care less about womenfolk. (Elisa wasn't to shabby, either) There's James of Team Rocket (I know, Pokemon, wtf.) or Sage from Ronin Warriors (Or Rowen, Anubis or Dais...). Puck.

Never entirely sure what makes me get a crush on a particular character, either. Because neither Donatello or Brooklyn would win any beauty contests, but I still adore them too. Sometimes it's an aesthetic thing, sometimes it's the voice, and sometimes it's the personality of the character, but any of those can lead me to crush on someone who is not only fictional but usually two-dimensional.

Karai is a bit of an exception to that 2-D rule. Heh. I don't even like the new TMNT movie much, but she fascinates me liek whoa.

Dear [livejournal.com profile] _xanthia,

I ______ you. You have a nice ______. You make me _______. You should ______. Someday I will ______. You + me = ______. If I saw you now I'd ______. I want to ______ you. I would build a ______ just for you. If I could sing you any song it would be ______. We could ______ under the stars. I want you to ______! The sex position I would most likely want to try out with you is ______.

(P.S. ______.)

Mmm, yesterday, after my insomnia got me up at four-something in the morning, well, I decided that just after seven would be a grand time to talk that walk listening to happy upbeat music. So, into the CD player went Eve 6, and off I went in time to miss Calum and Michaela getting up (how/why those children never sleep in is beyond my ken). I decided to alter my route a wee bit as well, for variety's sake. This is an idea that could have gone really bad really fast...

I'm walking down a street when out of the corner of my eye I see two rottweiler's trotting up to say hello. Now, I'm not the slightest bit afraid of dogs, and even though I hadn't even seen them 'til they were nearly on me, I didn't freak. It was just the way they approached me was that of excitement, like, "OOH! Someone to play with us!" rather than bounding at me barking furiously and deciding they wanted to try human. Still, two puppy-like rotties each weighing probably half as much as I do or more, who never learned not to jump on people?

They were also completely oblivious to my commands to go home, and wouldn't leave me be. They either walked deliberately in my path to slow me down to jump at me, and were under the impression I had treats in my pockets along with my cold hands. So, darlings that they were, I didn't really want them following me my entire walk, and I couldn't just leave two rotties wandering around, y'know?

So I walked towards the houses in the direction they'd come from, hoping at least one of the neighbors would know who the dogs belong to. Fortunately, I picked a house where the young couple and their kids were already awake and up, so I didn't disturb them on that count. I still apologised as I asked if they knew who might own them, and also, if they didn't, call someone to pick the dogs up. The guy stayed outside with me and the dogs to keep them wandering far or scaring his kids while his wife called the pound--but seven something on a Sunday morning? Pound was closed. So a few more calls later, and eventually the dogs were picked up by the MPs (military police. Oh the joys of living in a military camp. It's not that bad at all, actually...). I hope they found the owners and stuff, 'cause the dogs were nice, if, y'know, playful and adoring.

A recent [livejournal.com profile] metaquotes post involving math and gamer geekery, thanks to [livejournal.com profile] palmer_kun and the like, means I will forever adore this post about a Burning Goat. Hee!

Also, sidenote of weirdness, perhaps as a disappointment on Supernatural not showing on Friday, and also overheatedness (I went to bed in many wrm layers and that probably gave my dreams a twisted turn), but I dreamed about them last night, too. I don't remember much, but in my dream Sam was left facing the ghost things alone, unarmed, because Dean was...doing something with Papa Winchester...but they showed up in the nick of time to help Sam. But Sam wouldn't talk to his dad, just grabbed some stuff out of the trunk and went back to face the ghosty creature and I sorta lost the plot after that. It was just weird watching Sam all angsty but also in charge.

I also dreamed about SGA a wee tiny bit, and, well, my spaceship. Yeah, Valerie. She showed up in my mind some weeks ago, and been prodding me to design her layout, and further discussions with Matt are hammering out technological things. And now I'm figuring out her crew. This is all sorts of fun, but it invaded my dreams, damnit, and that's just crazy-obsessive of my brain.

A few things, in no particular order:

1.) The menstrual cycle is a curse: you curse it if it comes, and your curse it if it doesn't. Currently cursing it for coming, although I'm also grateful that everything is in working order, and I haven't gone and got myself knocked up. That would lead to all sorts of unpleasant business we don't need.

2.) He says I have a sexy tummy. It makes me laugh. But then I love it when he runs his hands across my belly and along my lower back. Tickling--or trying to--is so not on, however.

3.) I possibly drink too much coffee.

4.) I ate a tuna sandwich yesterday, and it didn't kill me. I still don't really like tuna, though. I'd say it's on the same level of distaste as mushrooms, but not as much as beetroot or eggplant/aubergine. Or absolute loathing like for sheep's kindeys.

5.) Danny Messer/Carmine Giovinazzo is all sorts of pretty:
See what I mean? )

6.) I have a mini moro bar sitting next to me, and I am too full to eat it. Le shock, horror!

7.) I've been really comment happy lately, having something to say, or sometimes not having something to say, but commenting anyway, particularly because of...

8.) [livejournal.com profile] nest_of_spiders, a new comm pimped to me by [livejournal.com profile] such_heights. They post prompts daily for the month of April. "The community is open to all characters and pairings (slash, het, gen) from the First War/Marauders' Era of Harry Potter (approximately 1970-1981)." The reponse to prompts has been simply amazing, and I've felt inclined to leave comments as I've yet to be inspired to write fic myself.

9.) I'm much too prideful for the teensy little bit of help I gave [livejournal.com profile] ashinae on her Nathan/Peter fic, Nothing So Complicated. It's all sorts of wrongness, but I still love it. Hee.

10.) Have a Happy Easter everyone! (Whether you celebrate it or not. Hope your weekend is grand, anyhow.)

Go look at my userpics. Ask me anything about any one of them--why I chose it, why that fandom, where the hell did I find it--anything at all.

An even bigger challenge: go look at said userpics, pick one, and write a drabble-length piece about it in the comments. It needn't be exactly 100 words. Could be more, could be less, but more than a sentence or two, if you please. If you do this, I will go look at your userpics, and return the favour.

President Grant: Mr. West, not every situation requires your patented approach of shoot first, shoot later, shoot some more and then when everybody's dead try to ask a question or two. ~Wild Wild West

I wish I could say my life is full of interesting happenings. It's not. Nothing major is going on... I mean, there's a guy, kind of (I'm not sure what we are, beyond having sex on occasion), and there's life stuff... I'm probably being slack somewhere or another.

My mother, bless her, sent me a money order for $75US that converts to just over $100NZ for bike accessories that I haven't acquired yet. I've thanked her many times, 'cause I'd thought I'd have to save up for that stuff over time.

I've started watching Without a Trace on Thursdays, just because. It's okay, but not a show I think I'll be passionate about.

I texted my dad the other weekend about whether or not he's got my Serenity DVD but he never replied. I don't know what all busy stuff he's got going on in his life, but he's been slow on email replies too. 'Cause he sent my brother and I an email a while ago about some life insurance policy taken out on us when we were kids, that made v. little sense to me, and it took a while for him to reply to my rather confused, "Wha...?" I'm still not sure what it's all about, except that he's kindly contacting the lawyers for us about quotes and stuff.

My brain is clearly on some strange drug, given some of the dreams I've had lately. One involved me sleeping with one guy and pregnant with his kid, when I took up with not only an old one night stand, but a third guy, and, somehwere in all this my family was visiting and being all friendly to everyone. I'm still not sure how no one was mad at me for playing three guys like that. And being pregnant.

...and that's about it, really. Nothing interesting here, carry on your way, 'bye now.
