So I realise some people probably could care less to know this about my body, but this is one of the first months in ages I haven't needed painkillers to get me through the first day of bleeding hell. Wonder what I've done differently in the lead up to allow that lovely break. Also, I am shockingly bad at remembering to pay attention to the dates to keep an accurate count, because while I am fairly regular I've never been, say, exactly 28 days apart or something. Just something I really should keep better track of.

A couple people pointed out an article and website regarding women and sexual harassment on the street... quickly had to click the 'x' before overwhelming feminist rage kicked in. Not the best time to read about how much some men suck.

That being said, my man is rather awesome. And adoring. And adorkable. I'm such a mushy girl for him.

The store he has been working so hard on setting up the last two months is at last finished and opened on Friday. Friends and family got to come check it out on Thursday night, it looks pretty cool. I also got to speak with the owners and Tricia wants a formal talk with me next week about if and where I could fit in there. Soooooooooo fingers crossed. I would really love to get a job there. And soon his hours should settle down so hopefully I will get to see more of my darling again.

He was cracking up, they had an 8-page article/ad in the local newspaper which included photos and mini-bios of all the managers, and he had people coming into the store and recognising him. Plus one of the reps he deals with was like, "That bio was so you!" Also he got given a DeWalt drill worth $700 as a prize for selling the most DeWalt products in one day, ever, of all the stores. Pretty awesome.

They had a deal at our local video shop 5 ex-rentals for $45 (avg ex-rental is $12.99 this puts them at $9 ea), so Alan got us The Last Airbender, The Sorcerer's Apprentice, Resident Evil: Afterlife, Despicable Me, and The Legend of the Guardians. Have only watched the 1st two so far... found the acting in the first one to be mediocre but the effects were way awesome. Enjoyed the second one immensely, was a bit of light-hearted fun and I have to admit I loved the tie-in with the Fantasia scene.

With the theatre in our town being closed (I hear it's getting a big revamp) there have been so many movies we've missed on the big screen, but now we have a 50" it's not so bad lmao. Still, with winter coming on trips to the beach for sun-bathing are not going to be the thing, and will start to be too cold for kayaking before long (haven't done nearly as much of that as I should have). So really hoping the movie theatre reopens soon so we can make that a winter event to break the boredom.

I'm being good and staying out of trouble, honestly... I mean, I only bought a t-shirt with Rainbow Brite on it that says "Made in the 80s" and wore it while out in town with my darling... *cackles* He is most unimpressed. Then I bribed him with a couple funny t-shirts, and bought dinner and a movie, but he still gives me shit about it! All fun and games, though, eh?

The other t-shirts I got was a picture skull and crossbones made of lego, and one that says, "My people will call your people to tell you to @#$% *&%". It was kinda fun to do that, then going to see Meet the Spartans. Like I said, (I think) next on the agenda is Sweeney Todd. 'Cause that also looks cool.

Last night our store closed at about 10pm so we could put in the new checkout systems. Man were folks upset that the 24/7 store was not open. Good lord were they pissy. But, I mean, seriously, why be so upset at a minor inconvenince? We gotta update the equipment sometime, and we can't exactly serve customers when the entire system is shutdown! And the new system has got to be better than tills that are nineteen years old.

So after cashing up, I got to do things like take damaged goods to the back of the store, and then spend and hour reorganising the dvds into some semblance of order (it will all be fucked up in two days time, but it makes today possibly easier). I would hve ahd to clear the checkouts of all the stuff, but that was done when I was on my 15.

Oh, and naturally the crimson floodgates had to open during that last hour or so, so there was cramping to make my night that much uncomfortable. Getting to sleep was a bitch, even with the painkillers. And my sleep was all screwy. Normally I'm out of it until 11 or 12 on a Wednesday, but not this morning... awake before the alarm at 7:30, and not interested in even a wee sleep after getting into town. Eh, bien. Perhaps my body knows what it's doing, but I doubt it.

Anyway, be well, and all that jazz. About to check the f-list as best I can soon as I hit the 'update' button. If you're lucky, I'll even drop a comment. Because comments are love.

A few things, in no particular order:

1.) The menstrual cycle is a curse: you curse it if it comes, and your curse it if it doesn't. Currently cursing it for coming, although I'm also grateful that everything is in working order, and I haven't gone and got myself knocked up. That would lead to all sorts of unpleasant business we don't need.

2.) He says I have a sexy tummy. It makes me laugh. But then I love it when he runs his hands across my belly and along my lower back. Tickling--or trying to--is so not on, however.

3.) I possibly drink too much coffee.

4.) I ate a tuna sandwich yesterday, and it didn't kill me. I still don't really like tuna, though. I'd say it's on the same level of distaste as mushrooms, but not as much as beetroot or eggplant/aubergine. Or absolute loathing like for sheep's kindeys.

5.) Danny Messer/Carmine Giovinazzo is all sorts of pretty:
See what I mean? )

6.) I have a mini moro bar sitting next to me, and I am too full to eat it. Le shock, horror!

7.) I've been really comment happy lately, having something to say, or sometimes not having something to say, but commenting anyway, particularly because of...

8.) [livejournal.com profile] nest_of_spiders, a new comm pimped to me by [livejournal.com profile] such_heights. They post prompts daily for the month of April. "The community is open to all characters and pairings (slash, het, gen) from the First War/Marauders' Era of Harry Potter (approximately 1970-1981)." The reponse to prompts has been simply amazing, and I've felt inclined to leave comments as I've yet to be inspired to write fic myself.

9.) I'm much too prideful for the teensy little bit of help I gave [livejournal.com profile] ashinae on her Nathan/Peter fic, Nothing So Complicated. It's all sorts of wrongness, but I still love it. Hee.

10.) Have a Happy Easter everyone! (Whether you celebrate it or not. Hope your weekend is grand, anyhow.)

Have been doing terribly domestic things like baking and laundry and loading/unloading the dishwasher, plus little things like making dad a cup of coffee before he's even got up. Oh, yes, not to mention being the last to bed and the first to rise. And that means locking and unlocking the doors and feeding the animals and all that jazz, too.

What the hell happened to being the lazy little twat I usually am?

Also, keep not getting around to watching the rest of the Black Books DVDs, v. terrible of me, really. Am far more excited at the prospect of watching the first season of SG-1 at Ange's this Saturday (having spotted it in the Wharehouse and persuading her starting at Season 1 to introduce Damo to it was a far better idea). I mean, obviously we won't watch the whole damn thing in one sitting, but we can make some headway, and hopefully Damian won't fall asleep like he often does.

Have mysterious scrapes on two knuckles... not a fucking clue how I got them, or why they're one different fingers of both hands. 'Snot like I've been getting into any sort of ruckus... (unlike my cousin John, the cop, who sent another entertaining email about the shit he gets up to in his job) Heh.

Iain has arrived up from Wellington, was here for all of five minutes, and promptly buggered off with his mate Ben. Ah, well, obviously we can play catch-up and all that jazz later. Yay.

Am I a terribly boring person with a terribly boring life, or what?

Wednesday, Ange, Damo and I went up to Auckland, well, Manukau city really, and the mall there, whatsit...Westfield? Whatever it's called. A shopping mall. Had lunch at Wendy's first. I have not had Wendy's in a long time. In fact, this is the first time I've had Wendy's in New Zealand. Sooo...about two years since I've been to Wendy's. It was good, anywho. And then we went to the mall...

...wherein I did not spend a whole lot of money on myself. Although I was sorely tempted on a couple of occasions. I resisted. Instead, only bought a little extra pressy for dad that, well, will probably be more played with by me and any other children. But there was this one store with a bunch of dragon stuff and ooooh how I wanted to buy all sorts. Again, resisted.

Ah, well... there's bound to be Christmas money to fritter away, and all that.

The curse is back, as it's wont to when I (once again, thankfully) fail to get myself knocked up. Okay. I can deal with that. Have been relatively symptomless...unless depression of a sorts is a symptom. And I'm fucking cold 'cause it's fucking freezing out there and the goddamn wind that leaves me half numb. Quite generally put out with life, the universe, and everything at the moment. That will pass. Hopefully I'll be thawed out by then, or at least snuggled up with some warming liquids and another warm body, and... yeah. *think happy thoughts think happy thoughts think happy thoughts...*

Comment and I'll give you a letter and then you have to list 10 things you love that begin with that letter.

01. Keanu Reeves -love him or hate him, he's still pretty nice eye candy.
02. Kit Kat -mmmm, chocolate...
03. Kindly Ones, The -it's Neil Gaiman. It's Sandman. It's good.
04. Kinks, The -Lola. Awesome, awesome song. Great music.
05. Kites -when I was little we used to have this cool red octopus kite.
06. Kate Winslet -one of my favourite actresses, yo. And pretty.
07. Kittens -our cat Pearl had her kittens on my bed at four something in the morning, almost 11 years ago. She and one of said kittens, Yoda, live with my dad and step-mum now.
08. 'Köhanga Reo' -my brother and I were the only pakeha children in our kohanga reo classes...unfortunately I've forgotten most of my maori and anything I might have been taught there.
09. Kian -a name I came up with once, and then found in books by three different authors, and every single time the character with this name got killed. I've so totally got a write a story where he doesn't.
10. Klingons -'cause, y'know, Trekkie and whatnot.

I was gonna write a bit about last night with Grant. And what I've come up with so far in the way of the meme I posted yesterday (that only one person has commented on. Where's the love?). But, thing is... I've got cramps and all that lovely femme stuff and simply cannot be bothered.

It's so fucking cold at night. Even though most of me is wrapped up nice and warm in bed, I always end up with a cold face because I gotta breathe, y'know? Well this morning after breakfast I was getting ready to brush my teeth when I looked in the mirror and saw some 'food' on my bottom lip. I go to wipe it off, only it doesn't disappear. Closer inspection and I realise... it's not food. It's dried blood. It's so fucking cold at night that my lips bloody cracked and bled!

And as I was making my way to the library today, it started to rain, but then the rain started to hurt... fucking hail! It's cold. *shivers*

I don't like today and it's not even ten o'clock.

I woke up this morning, put the dogs out, etc... went back to bed. Finally got up 'cause Buddy wouldn't stop whining to come back inside. Had to feed him and Truffles, and the cats, and make sure nobody stole anyone else's food.

Answered nature, and oh yeah, period started yesterday sometime around the time I sat down to watch Once Upon a Time in Mexico, so I go to the loo this morning and it looks like someone was murdered in my panties during the night. This is not a nice period. Maybe, maybe I have to put up with crime scene panties for just a few days, as opposed to the usual painter's visit that lasts a week.

Oh, and it's raining, and there's washing on the line. It's washing that was done last week, forgotten about and sat in the washer for days, so it had to be rewashed to get rid of the smell. *sigh*

I keep spilling milk. And I've yet to do dishes, which should probably be done before Dad and Suzy get back. And I want to get on Iain's computer because after watching Once Upon a Time in Mexico, I watched Silence of the Lambs (just as I sat down to eat dinner, and I'd never seen before, but ooh do I like it), and then Star Wars. And now I want to watch Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi. BUT his power button is finicky--you have to press it just right or it jams and the computer doesn't turn on. And all I seem to be doing is jamming it. It. Just. Won't. Turn. On.

I told you I don't like today.

Maybe something nice will happen to make it better, but I think that's just wishful thinking on my part.

In other news, I tore the nail on my big toe yesterday. It hurt. And bled. I'm not looking for sympathy. What I'd like to know is if there's anything I should put on the nail to stop it from growing all fucked up. I didn't tear it off completely, it's just got a split (or two) and currently I'm keeping it wrapped up in a bandaid. Do I just wait for the split to grow out, or will it it decide to grow all funky if I don't persuade it otherwise? I don't want ugly toenails. I hate ugly toenails.

1/3 HP, 2/3 Christmas )

So I went from just working one day (Sunday) to having work for Monday through Wednesday, and all of next weekend. At least I get a break with Thursday and Friday off. But it's quite fun work. And we got our own little Christmas tree for free.
The only sucky thing was that my period started, and guess what I meant to, but forgot to bring? Thankfully Alice had some on hand because she keeps some in case any of her granddaughters have an emergency when they're visiting. I was very grateful.
Dad and Suzy went to her Christmas do for work, leaving me on my onesies for tea. I got fish 'n chips. I brought Buddy and Truffles along, since I don't think they've had a walk in a while. And things are good. Now I'm off for a shower, get nice and cleaned up again.

I got a little carried a way maybe )

Today I finally sat down at edited a short story I wrote about a year ago. I've posted it here before. On some concrit I got over at [livejournal.com profile] nz_writers I finally sat down and cleaned it up a little. Maybe I'll post the new version over at fictionpress.com later on. I kinda want to go over my works already posted there and work on them too. There's definitely room for improvement.
The weather is so nice I'm wearing a dress. I look so dressed up with my hair up like it is, and the matching necklace and earrings. It's kinda nice, looking nice. And Liz admired my dress. It got warm enough I ended up opening my windows to let in a breeze or die of the stuffyness. 'Cause there's a bunch of maintainence going on and such, so there's workers around outside, I figured it would be a good idea to put away all my clean laundry before they can tell what I wear under everything. Ha. I got a bit OCD even and ended up going through all my drawers and actually sorting and folding all my clothes. Usually I just shove 'em in every which way.
I have this pencil holder, something I've had for years, but I hate it. So I decided to replace it. I got an old can that once held spaghetti, washed off the label, and made a new cover. I put one of my photos of a dragon and its keeper from a past Ren faire, and glued it to a piece of paper along with the sticker that says, "Do not meddle in the affairs of dragons, for you are crunchy and taste good with ketchup!" And taped that on to the can. It looks cool.
Spent last night curled up on my bed with a hot water bottle. Stupid cramps. Thankfully they were nice and done with when I finally decided to go to sleep last night.

It's overcast right now. The ground is wet, but it hasn't really been raining. Not anything torrential, at any rate. The weather lately has been pleasant. Sunny. Warm. I get up in the morning and open my windows to let in a breeze. Get distracted in the evenings and come home to a chilly room because I was online 'til late and handn't closed the windows and curtains. Oops. It's invariably warm in the computer labs, even with the fans going. So glad they installed those in the last month.
I hate my period for starting at such a time that my favourite pair of shorts were out of comission for a while. I hate that my sandals are all synthetic materials, so unlike leather sandals, they never break in, and leave me with sores on my feet from rubbing the skin wrong. I hate my closed shoes for giving me athlete's foot so I have to deal with that. It's a pleasure to walk around in shorts and bare feet. Except late at night when my feet are colder and more sensitive, so even slightly rough ground is uncomfortable. The old fear of slugs keeps me off the grass--even though there's nothing here like the ones back in WA. *shudders*
I'm just a little depressed right now. A little low. I feel like the other girls don't like me. I don't fit in. I wonder how much they realise I don't fit in. It's painful because they don't understand me, and they don't try to. They've got their cliques and close friendships. We can talk, but we're not friends. I miss having friends to do things with. Even if it's just watching movies. And playing the colours game. (They won't even try to learn the colours game--even though Annalise belches all the time) Playing Scum or Blewme (Bloomie? Solitaire Showdown. I saw someone playing that on MSN recently and missed our games).
I almost hate it when mum tells me what's been going on back home. Ha... home. But hearing about her and Gary and the cats, even the bloody insufferable racoons, it makes me miss it. I don't want to go back. I want to visit, but I don't want to go back. But I miss my friends and all that, too.
I need to remember to ask mum to get me some more knee high striped socks for Christmas. My red and white ones have got holes in the heels now. Sad.
Another reason I'd love to visit...

Last night I was chatting with Matt. Or rather, role-playing. It was rather spur of the moment. It was going by his idea of the chocaholic Myrdraal, and I was playing off of that. Already I've been trying to think of what my character looks like, where she must be from, and where she's been that she knows what she knows. I will have to further question Matt about any limitations as to what my character can do/be/know. Trying to refrain of Sue-dom. But it was very Wheel of Time. And so much fun. Especially when I began separating my thoughts from my character's thoughts.
Her name's Andra Liernan. I haven't figured her age. From clues from Matt, she must be rather attractive--after all, the two innkeeper's sons were both chasing after her mighty quick (and he was making pointed references to THEIR good looks and muscles, etc. oh, the drama!). Somehow she's made friends with a Myrdraal, her hidden protecter--who works for chocolate. Whee! In my mind I see her as someone with dark brown hair and brown eyes. Not pale, more olive skinned. On the shorter end of tall. Not dressed flamboyantly, but has wealth and probably appears to be maybe upper merchant class, or hell, she could possibly pass for low-ranking nobility.
We started out in Tel'aran'rhiod, the World of Dreams. So, with a bit of deft manipulation of said world, she carries a fair amound of wealth, as well as chocolate, and "necessities" which I left unspecified. At least one spare dress. :P And an overcoat. That's all I've got so far. Haven't thought of whether she has any other weapons beyond a knife. I haven't even decided if she has any weapon proficiency. I'll probably ask Matt if we're hammering out more stats and such.
It was fun to play and have backstory ideas come to me randomly. She started out as nothing. A nameless woman of unknowns. And they just began forming. It was great! And then, the honour of honours in my books: Matt asked if, whenever I visit in the States, we can play a WoT campaign with Andra and Derun'shael (a.k.a. the Stricken One a.k.a. Daryn) being NPCs. And that? That would be brilliant. I would love so much for the other players to meet these two... and then afterwards learn of their origins.

Last night's dinner was really nice. Mind you, Friday night dinners generally are. I wish they'd serve pizza again. The hot dogs are okay... the fish was really nice though. And who can resist fries and potato wedges? Nice pasta salad as well.
But I'm sick. Runny nose, sneezing, sore throat, and fatigue even after a GREAT night's sleep. This is all made worse by the fact that my period started this morning when I got up, and that the weater is absolutely fucking beautiful. Bloody fucking hell this blows.
Might have an afternoon siesta later.

I got Eileen to email me the link. We looked at those two or three nights ago. Bloody hell, is all I can say. Intense shit.

A quiz result or two )

Talked with Eileen about food today. Like, the mere pleasure I take in eating meat pies, or lamb chops, or fish 'n chips (gods I really want some). But that's all foods she takes for granted, while I have barely had any of the like for about five years. Hell, even sausages are different (and better) here. I've missed the food the most. So far, it's only Iced Lattes I've missed from the States in the way of food, or in the case, beverages. Well... Cherry Coke as well.

Lost starts on Wednesday (Channel 2, 8:30). I'm very excited. I will have to be v. v. quiet though. Even if they're discussing what's going on, I will have to watch what I say. Because, I know, if I say anything that's even remotely spoilerish, they'll tell me to shut up. But, oh, Lost is starting on Wednesday. Yay!
I got to talk with Jess yesterday. That was nice since we haven't chatted in a while. Caught up on things. Wished I'd had more interesting things to say. (I don't; it's unlikely to get interesting much before O-Week in Palmy)
My dad tried to persuade me it was generous of him to allow me to do his vaccuuming. Notice I'm not doing the vaccuuming.
There's some festival thingy going on at the Hamilton Gardens in late February. Unfortunately I will be gone when some of the shows I would have liked to see will be on. But I think I just may have to go see Love's Labour's Lost (Yeah, it's Shakespeare. Don't think I've ever seen one of his plays performed live) That will be playing before I leave. Really, it's the Wai Taiku Drummers I want to see. They'll be performing in the Japanese garden (appropriate) but the day after I leave.
My right arm is all scratched up. I was playing with Cara and since I had my sweater on I let her be a bit more vicious. Of course that meant claws and teeth made it right through the material. And when I'm holding her off the ground as she bites me and holds on with her claws alone... yeah, it came as no surprise. It was quite amusing. It also meant I was being a bad influence because Eileen has been trying to encourage her to be gentle when she plays. I had fun even though now I have lots of scratches.
Andrea's birthday is in less than a week. I need to get her a present. No idea what to get her though. Should ask. Hope I find something eventually though. She's not celebrating her birthday until next weekend though. Going to have a bbq and all that fun stuff. That should be interesting.

It's too hot for period cramps. But the painkiller was nice.
'Twas a very lazy Sunday. I did get new jandals (the old ones died) and some more batteries for my discman. Lunch was some nice scones but I ended up not having very many because of the cramps.
When I came back from walking to Eileen's (I live here too, but it's her place) (I had to go there to deal with my period starting) they thought I looked rather ill. Probably was a combination of things including the fact it was so hot. Not that I'm complaining. It's been a whole week of nice weather. That is good. More is better.
So we went back to Eileens after dinner to watch the movie on tv--The Mexican. Partly because dad's tv is tiny and fussy, and his living room is cramped. Anyway, good movie, but what really got me excited...
LOST IS COMING TO NEW ZEALAND! *squees* And they looked at me funny for being so excited but EEEEE! LOST! YAY!
Am waiting for my laundry to be washed so I can hang it out on the line now.
