Ahem. Apparently my hall is lawless and runs rampant with trouble makers.
On the night of Thursday, 19 May, 2005, I decided to join several of my hallmates and go out to town. Our Residential Advisor (RA), Elyshia, had left for a weekend break (which she deserved), and we were left to our own devices, which was nothing bad. Lucy and her friends from another hall were drinking, as were Victoria, Annalise, Kirsti, and Kate's boyfriend Isaac (from the same hall as Lucy's friends). While Kate and I were also going out, we weren't drinking. Loud music was playing from Lucy's room, but when the Duty RA was doing her rounds, and Lucy apologised for the volume and offered to turn it down, she was told it wasn't too loud and merely needed to be turned lower after 10:30 p.m. We would be long gone to town before that.
However, at about 9:30 p.m., as we prepared to leave for the bus station, two RAs from another hall, who were not on duty, came storming into our hall, and all hell broke loose. Lucy was going into her room to turn off the music, while Kate and Kirsti were going upstairs for last minute errands. I was out in the foyer, as was Isaac who was holding someone's drink. One of the RAs, Liesl (aka the psycho bitch RA), promptly snatched the drink off of Isaac on the grounds that it was an open bottle outside of the common room. A whole two steps out of it. Isaac swore in general, but not at the RAs, and Kate when she noticed, questioned their presence given that they were not on duty, and we had not been misbehaving. She was give an curt, "RAs are wherever they're needed to be" and that was that. Without our RA, we were defenseless against this onslaught, but we do not hold her absense to blame.
By then, Liesl had stomped through the common room and out onto the porch to dress down the group of people assembled on the lawn outside, many of whom were smokers abiding by the no-smoking within so many metres of buildings rule. Victoria had her drink and name taken from her for having a drink outside the common room, even if she hadn't been drinking it. Many of those present let out an uproar given the antagonistic and utterly disrespectful treatment from Liesl. She, nor the other RA Kirsten, were prepared to listen to reason, and the pair of them stormed off, immaturely slamming the front door behind them.
The majority of those present decided now was a good time to leave and wait for the bus, to avoid further provoking the RAs. En masse, we did walk down to the bus stop, only to be met by three security guards there, and have both the RAs and a few more show up. Like errant schoolchildren, our names, halls, and roomnumbers were recorded. When questioned, we were told that those of us in Craiglockhart would find out about this on Monday, which we took to mean that we would have a meeting in which we could explain our side of the story, but lo and behold! Upon returning to our hall between the hours of 1 & 2:30 am, the six of us who went into town found referral notices containing bogus charges pinned to our doors.
On Sunday evening I did submit in writing my account of the events of that night to Elyshia, and tonight I am to have a meeting explaining myself. Even if I am cleared of charges and must serve no community service, this referral will still go down on my record despite its innacuracy and could be used against me if I ever commit an(other) offense. Neither RA is likely to suffer any disciplinary action for this, nor be forced to apologise or admit her wrongdoing. Given that I committed no misconduct, this is at the very least mildly upsetting.
/factual summary.
Even with all of that, I did have fun on Thursday night. We went into town, and I had a free drink (and a couple bought for my buy Kate and Lucy), and I danced, and I met two nice boys who bought me more drinks. Peter, the one who approached me, is at least single and I have spoken to him on occasion since then. Mayhap I will meet him in town again this Thursday or Saturday. Looks like Shan has competition of a sorts. *grins* The two boys were nice enough to walk me back to the bus station and wait with me until my bus came, and Peter even texted me a while later to ask if I got back all right. I had; I nearly lost my passport but thankfully did not.
Last Friday was one of the girl's, Sarah G, 19th birthday. She had a bunch of vouchers and stuff she'd won, so she'd gone to the movies and a cafe, before coming back with several rented movies and a couple cakes that had been baked for her. It took four of us girls to light her cake--Victoria to get started and burn herself, Came to start taking over, Sarah T with her bright idea of holding unlit candles to the already lit ones and thus prevent burning and dripping wax, and me to show Victoria how to slip her candle back into the centre without getting burned, and light the last candle--and then we sang her Happy Birthday. The cake was nice, and the movie I stayed to watch was all right.
I think I ended up going to bed at about 2 am three nights in a row, and thank the gods it was a weekend and I could sleep in.
This is the last week of labs for three of my classes; only Chemistry has one next week. Fairly soon I will have lots of time in which to study, study, study for my exams. Oh killjoy. I have a three week semester break coming up from 24 June to 18 July, in which I plan to visit some friends and family in Napier and Masterton at the very least, but hopefully also come back to Hamilton for a little bit and maybe see my brother again down in Wellington. I'll also be turning 20, and who knows where I'll be, doing what, and with whom.
Tomorrow night my hall and the boys only hall we're associated with are having a pizza night. This is bound to be good, and who doesn't love pizza? It's as good a start as any, not to mention being a Thursday night which is THE night to go out, followed closely by Saturday nights. We will have fun, because our referral issues will have been dealt with, and not to mention all other reasons we'll find to celebrate.
Before I know it, it will be the weekend again. So far my plans include meeting up with Liz, a girl from Shan's hall, and having fun in town on Saturday night. And studying, of course. Naturally. Plus maybe finishing Order of the Pheonix if I haven't already.
Fin.
