Alan's mum came to visit us for a week. After losing Gladys, I think she knew she needed some time away from the rest home to escape the loneliness. I introduced her to Terry Goodkind's Sword of Truth series, because the books are sooooooooo much better than the show.
Goodkind wrote those books with a specific plot to get from point A to point B, and the show pushes that aside to explore every old fantasy trope that ever was... okay, idk if that's true, I barely lasted it to the first ads of the first ep, and 5 mins of an ep where Cara failed to be a spectacularly bad-ass mord-sith, and uh, yeah, mord-sith don't have sisters because they are taken as ONLY CHILDREN and effed up... yes I'm down to incoherent ranting with how WRONG the show is. :( I'm sure it's all very entertaining if you don't know the source material, but I do, and even if I have my rants about that, it's still a million times better than Legend of the Seeker.
Anyway, she likes the books, and is borrowing them and some others. And we got her to watch some movies she hadn't seen.
At the end of it we took her to the SPCA (like the humane society), so she could buy a cat. Another way to beat the loneliness. She picked out a rather pretty girl by the name of Clarissa, who is being renamed Missy. She's mostly white with some tortoise-shell colouring. Very calm, and very friendly. Settling in well, last I heard.
Alan had his mum's old engagement ring and got me to try it on. It fits, so I am wearing it, but I am still wanting a sapphire ring that he will buy for me. Nothing against the sentimental value of the ring I am wearing, but I am wanting something picked out especially for me. :)
Fin.
