It's strange how things work
Dec. 2nd, 2004 10:13 pmThe movie with The Rock known as The Rundown in the States is called Welcome to the Jungle here. Shaun of the Dead is out so I will definitely be seeing it since I was unable to in the US. I love my British movies. I think I'd like to marry a Brit. Preferably Orlando Bloom, because, hell, pretty boys are nice. Iain wants to take me to Garden State. That's the great think about having a brother that works at the movie theatres: free movies. He also tells me I need to watch Donnie Darko.
Tomorrow I'm moving in with him (He's my brother. You know that, right? Well you do now if you didn't. We won't be sharing a room. This family doesn't play together, thank you.). Mum is going home. She is under orders that she is not allowed to cry. I don't like it when she cries. Mind you, I don't like it much when anyone is crying around me. It gets one of two responses: annoyance or this empathic start-crying-because-they-are type deal. I also hate crying around people. Even in the same house because if I truly did as I wanted: to cry and scream and generally get it all out of my system someone would be bound to notice. They're not allowed to notice. Crying is a very private affair for me. Otherwise I'm embarrassed because it's over something stupid or they try to comfort me and I don't want to be comforted, damnit.
Today I went shopping. This Hare Krishna monk gave me a book on meditation and I did my best to offer a good donation but I AM a poor starving student-to-be. Thankfully with seven people in our flat rent will be $65.50. Had a look in Chi Chi's which is the store Charlie came from. His brother and sister bears are soooo cute. In another store got a couple NZish bookmarks for mum. I got Rhi's present but shhh I'm not telling what since she reads this.
Sorry to everyone else who I haven't got presents for; you'll get un-birthday and un-christmas gifts at some random point in time to make up for it. I do think of you muchly. I saw at least one girl that made me think of Ash. And Happy Birthday, Brit. :D
There's some sort of sale thingie today and a lot of stores were doing this open from 9:00 a.m. to midnight thing. So, we did some shopping before dinner at Kmart (I got a new wallet that has a crab on it and some non-spray deoderant that better work, damnit) and then had dinner at this cool place. It's a bar and restaurant called Iguana's and I just have fond memories of it. Then it was to another store and I fell in love with this corset. So, feeling positively sinful, I bought it. Emma (my godmother's daughter; mum's godchild) made jokes that I had to get some sexy lingerie so that I'll just have to show it off to some boy at uni. Teehee.
No, I don't believe I'll be posting pictures of any of that.
Wolverine. YEAH!
Step One
- Make a post (public, friendslocked, filtered...whatever you're comfortable with) to your LJ. The post should contain your list of 10 holiday wishes. The wishes can be anything at all, from simple and fandom-related ("I'd love a Snape/Hermione icon that's just for me") to medium ("I wish for _____ on DVD") to really big ("All I want for Christmas is a new car/computer/house/TV.") The important thing is, make sure these wishes are things you really, truly want.
- If you wish for real life things (not fics or icons), make sure you include some sort of contact info in your post, whether it's your address or just your email address where Santa (or one of his elves) could get in touch with you.
- Also, make sure you post some version of these guidelines in your LJ, or link to this post so that the holiday joy will spread.
Step Two
- Surf around your friendslist (or friendsfriends, or just random journals) to see who has posted their list. And now here's the important part:
- If you see a wish you can grant, and it's in your heart to do so, make someone's wish come true. Sometimes someone's trash is another's treasure, and if you have a leather jacket you don't want or a gift certificate you won't use--or even know where you could get someone's dream purebred Basset Hound for free--do it.
You needn't spend money on these wishes unless you want to. The point isn't to put people out, it's to provide everyone a chance to be someone else's holiday elf--to spread the joy. Gifts can be made anonymously or not--it's your call.
There are no rules with this project, no guarantees, and no strings attached. Just...wish, and it might come true. Give, and you might receive. And you'll have the joy of knowing you made someone's holiday special.
My Christmas Wishlist in a Nutshell:
1. A new battery charger and rechargable batteries because I had to leave my American ones in America (different power systems)
2. A semi-decent job
3. Artwork to keep me company in my hall until my Legolas poster arrives. And after that too, of course. :D
4. Letters, postcards, and cards from all over so I don't get lonely.
5. A mobile phone
6. A better quality digital camera
7. Andrea Bocelli CDs
8. The money for tickets or actual tickets to Big Day Out
9. To have my uni application, student loan and allowance and hardship stuff all sorted out.
10. A boy to snog and spend the summer with.
Email me hvmcfarland (at) hotmail (dot) com if you don't already have my contact info. Some of you should, though.
