Graduation stuff part DEUX
Jun. 14th, 2004 06:41 pmPractice for commencement was boring. At least we got breakfast. When I came home, I promptly went to bed and slept for two or three hours. Sometime after I got up, Chuck arrived. He's kind of like a father to Gary, so a sort of surrogate grandfather to me. Then Sylvia and Mike showed up, and I got to open some grad presents. Mum got me a pen that will be engraved. Sylvia and Mike got me a $25 Borders gift card, and a book of fairy jigsaw puzzles. Dinner was bacon and egg pie. I nearly felt sick right after. Not cool.
Switching my pearl necklace I'd been wearing to the necklace Gary gave me, I left with Rhianna to go the commencement. Rhianna learned to run in high heels. Before we knew it, we were in our caps and gowns, and waiting to enter the pavilion. I hate Pomp and Circumstance. It was really hard to pay attention to walking and look at the crowds at the same time, so I focused on walking. I all but yelled at Rhi when she walked a bit too fast at one point... and then I was a bit embarrased because I was loud enough for the people standing and watching by the aisles to hear us.
The ceremony seemed to go by so quickly. Thankfully no one really screwed up. I felt a bit bad that I couldn't focus on all the names being said. I mean, I hear my name being said when I walk across the stage, but did I ever hear Rhianna's? Not once. I totally missed Sassy walking. I don't even remember seeing her in cap and gown. Ah well, I saw mum and Sylvia when I was walking out. Mum took a picture of me just as I was laughing at seeing her with the camera.

Many hugs and photos later, Rhi left me in search of her parents because she could not find them. So I almost finished off the film on one camera that had some pictures from a weekend at Hen's... a lot of us wandered around like lost sheep when we had no idea where Grad Night people were supposed to meet up. Eventually found out. Finished my camera within five to ten minutes on the bus.
We got lots of goodies. We learned we were going to Trohpy lake for some late dinner, and then we'd go on to Miracle Ranch for the rest of the night. It was funny, that part of our goodies, was a disposable camera. That meant I had two cameras to use up in the night. I got to working.
We got lost at one point before getting to Trophy Lake. I don't know who's bright idea it was to have us outside, at night, in Washington, after a cloudy day, but I know that some people moved their tables to be under these overhead heaters. After a small meal that I practically inhaled--chicken, bread and butter, pepsi and a brownie--I huddled under one of the overhead heaters. While we were eating, we were visited by the magic man who did some card tricks, that involved us laughing at Kaisa a lot as she didn't listen to his instructions well--still, she got an origami frog made from a card, so we took pictures of her and her "prince". When most people were done eating the magic man started his actual performance. He did some rope trick with Dustin as his assistant, and of course it meant we laughed at Dustin's misfortune a lot.
Finally, all that was over and it was off to Miracle Ranch. Less than half an hour in and Ashtyn alread ripped her pants at the crotch. Teehee! It was in a play fight with Kaisa on the... it was a bouncy thing. I never danced, but there was lots of music playing, and DDR in the other room. I also didn't sumo wrestle, which could have been awesome.
We all won a prize or two, and some were lame, and some were really neat. I got a digital alarm clock radio, and a foldable lunch pail with a flashlight.
I was really, really tired by the time it was over. I wish I got to win the laptop... but Shelby did, and promptly gave it away. I'd like to know what she was thinking. All I know is that when I got home, at about seven in the morning, I went straight to bed.
I didn't wake up until four thirty in the afternoon.
